Allied travel nurses are in high demand, and certifications can help you advance your career and earn more money. Here are a few certifications to consider:

  • Board certification. Board certification is the gold standard for many allied health professions. It demonstrates your expertise in your field and can make you more competitive for travel assignments.
  • Specialty certifications. There are also many specialty certifications available for allied health professionals. These certifications can help you develop your skills and knowledge in a specific area of your field.
  • Advanced practice certifications. Advanced practice certifications allow you to provide a higher level of care to your patients. These certifications typically require additional education and training.

Here are a few specific certifications to consider for different allied health professions:

  • Physical therapists: The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) offers board certification in 10 different specialties, including orthopedics, sports physical therapy, and neurologic physical therapy.
  • Occupational therapists: The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) offers board certification in three different specialties: certified hand therapist (CHT), certified occupational therapy specialist in pediatrics (COTP), and certified occupational therapy specialist in rehabilitation (OTR/L).
  • Speech-language pathologists: The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) offers board certification in two different specialties: certified clinical speech-language pathologist (CCLS-P) and certified speech-language pathologist (SHA).
  • Respiratory therapists: The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) offers board certification in two different specialties: certified respiratory therapist (CRT) and registered respiratory therapist (RRT).

In addition to these specific certifications, there are also a number of general certifications that can be helpful for allied travel nurses, such as the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification and the Certified Healthcare Simulationist (CHS) certification.

If you’re considering a career in allied travel nursing, I encourage you to research the certifications that are available in your field. Certifications can help you advance your career, earn more money, and provide better care to your patients.
