Practical Holiday Season Side Gigs for Traveling Healthcare Professionals

Share

We’ve all been there. The holidays are approaching, and as is often the case, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have a few extra bucks in the bank account. As a traveling healthcare professional, you may not want to be working a lot of shifts at this time of year – or you may simply want to save a little on the side for some holiday extras

The good news is, there are quite a few things you can do – using your degree and otherwise – to bump up your income. Here are five side hustles to help traveling healthcare pros earn some extra cash:

  1. Health Coaching

For a healthcare worker, this sounds like a no brainer, right? The fact is, health coaching can be a perfect source of income. You do need to get certified to work as a health coach, but your role would be to work with people and help them improve their overall wellness. This could mean coming up with workout routines, teaching the positive benefits of a balanced diet, and holding them accountable during their wellness journey.

  1. Set Up an Etsy Shop

If you’ve never heard of Etsy, this is a site where people who create handmade goods can sell their craft! This is a very good side hustle for travel healthcare workers since it allows you to use your days off to do something else that you really love – and make some money as you’re doing it. What’s great about Etsy is you can showcase your marvelous talents and literally do it from anywhere.

  1.  Be a Nanny

While we’re not suggesting this be a fulltime gig, it’s possible to pick up random babysitting shifts to earn extra cash. Many parents struggle to find someone reliable and trustworthy to watch their kids, especially for a weekend or an extended number of days. As a healthcare worker, it’s likely that parents would be a lot more comfortable hiring you than the 16-year-old down the street.

  1. Become a Tutor

As a working healthcare professional, your expertise is worth something – especially for students. If you’d like to become a tutor, one way to go about it is to send a feeler out on campus Facebook pages, bulletins, or newsletters and see if any students are interested in your services. Your rate could range from $10 to $40 an hour, depending on how generous you’re willing to be and how much college students are willing to dish out. It can also be a fun and rewarding experience.

  1. Teach CPR

Since you’re in healthcare, chances are you’ve taken a CPR class at some point. Now you can put those class hours to good use. Check with your local YMCA,Red Cross, or community health clinic and see if they’re looking for CPR instructors. Coming from a healthcare background will put you at a great advantage above other candidates. The pay for these kinds of positions varies, but it’s a lowstress way of making a little bit of extra cash, especially if you’re currently in between placements.
